CRUELTY IN EUROPE/TAKE ACTION

CRUELTY IN THE NAME OF TRADITION!!

The Luminarias Fiesta in Spain is one of many fiestas currently inflicting terrible torture and abuse upon animals throughout Europe.
Currently within the EU these fiestas are described as "Cultural, Regional Heritage and Tradition" and, as such, are excluded from the 'Treaty of Lisbon' where animals, as 'sentient beings' are entitled to protection.

Please write to your own  MEP's demanding change in the wording of the Treaty.

Tradition and Culture can be no excuse for Torture, Abuse and Cruelty!!

You may use the sample below as guidelines in composing a letter to your MEP, adding your own thoughts, views and comments.

Re: Article 13 Treaty of Lisbon

"In formulating and implementing the Union's policy in the areas of agriculture, transport, internal market and research and technological development and space, the Union and Member States shall take full account of the requirements for the welfare of animals as sentient beings, while respecting the legislative or administrative provisions and customs of Member States in particular to religious rite, cultural traditions and regional heritage"

Dear,

As a citizen of the EU, I am writing to you with regard to my concerns about a cruelty that takes place annually in Spain :

The Luminaras festival in San Bartolome de Pinares 16/17 January

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1347858/Luminarias-festival-Spain-Celebrating-patron-saint-animals-riding-horses-FIRE.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

As you can see from the photographs, this event shows no regard for 'welfare requirements of animals'
Quite the reverse.

It sits very uncomfortably with me to be part of a trading group of countries where barbaric and sadistic 'rituals' are accepted as normal and acceptable in the 21st century, as to my knowledge, no religion endorses cruelty to sentient beings ?

I would be obliged if you would raise this matter within the European Parliament at the earliest opportunity.

I remain yours faithfully,

Your Name
Your Address
